ScreenshotDuplicate Files Finder is an application which searches for duplicate files (files which have the same content, but not necessarily the same name) and lets the remove duplicate files, either by deleting them or by creating links. The search is very fast compared to other similiar programs which use hashing algorithms.

Awesome!!!! 36671j

I have tried many duplicate file programs that take forever, but this one just screamed through it. Very nice and simple but very effective.

When Satan is knocking at your door, simply say, Jesus, could you get that for me?

Different technique 551s1m

Most hash a full file and compare hashes. Which is a bit disk and U intensive. This one reads in bytes from the beginning of the file and compares them directly, which is much more efficient.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Clarification 1m1e4m

To clarify what John said, it will do a byte-by-byte comparison and then immediately stop if it finds a difference.
A hashing requires reading the entire file regardless of them being different, this only reads as much as it needs to until they it notices they differ.

Going to get some stuff off an old XP computer before trying out linux on it, given the lack of XP has now.
So will be putting this tool to good use.

If at first you do not succeed, use more sticky tape.

Not exactly 16436o

All it does for me is show me which files have the exact same file size. It doesn't actually check that they are the same—unless I am doing something wrong, which is always a possibility.

I ed an anime wallpaper dump from Reddit (/r/anime) and I noticed there were duplicates. For small, single-use tools like this, I turn to PortableApps, even to be used locally. So I scan the folder, and sure enough there are about a dozen files found with the same size. 8 were, in fact, duplicates, but 4 were not. They were nothing alike. They were merely the same size. So a byte by byte comparison did not happen.

Early indicators are that this will do the job quite nicely!
