Portable Thunderbird keeps asking whether or not to set itself as the default mail application...

I have checked inside the app. and all three check boxes are unticked. What setting do I need to tweak so as NOT to have Portable Thunderbird check to see if it's the default mail app.?

Thanks.

It isn't PTB.exe

It's TB.exe. And it's stored in the registry, so it uses a trick to get around this. What kind of are you running on (, limited, guest)?

I'm the . on this machine.

I had tweaked the PortableThunderbird.ini to be this earlier:

[PortableThunderbird]
ThunderbirdDirectory=App\thunderbird
ProfileDirectory=Data\profile
PluginsDirectory=Data\plugins
ProfileDirectory=Data\profile
AdditionalParameters=
AllowMultipleInstances=false
SkipChromeFix=false
SkipCompregFix=false
WaitForThunderbird=false
ThunderbirdExecutable=Thunderbird.exe
DisableSplashScreen=true
GPGPathDirectory="C:\Program Files\GPGshell"
GPGHomeDirectory="C:\Program Files\GPGshell"

Another .reg file I'm noticing now...

... is in the root of the PortableThunderbird folder called "thunderbird_localbackup.reg" and it is reading thus:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla Thunderbird]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla Thunderbird\Desktop]
"showMapiDialog"="0"

More details

When I start up Portable Thunderbird, it keeps asking me whether or not to set it as the default email app. I always answer NO to "Set the mail as default" and check the "Do not ask again" box. Yet, each time I start up Portable Thunderbird, it poses the same old question.

I'm aware

I'm fully aware of what you're talking about. There's no need to keep responding to your own post.

...

I'm OC also (though more of a Type B personality), but that "edit" link is there for a reason; there's no need to keep replying to your own posts when you have to add information. All it does is keep bumping your post up to the top, which tends to annoy other .

Just letting you know for the future. Smile

w/o INI

What happens if you don't use the INI. Does it still ask?

If I don't use the .INI...

... No, Portable Thunderbird no longer keeps asking, so now I need an .ini tweak. I have to be able to define another place for my GNU Privay Guard directory and prevent the splash screen. Wink

Could be a bug

Could be a bug in the launcher. It doesn't do the registry fix when you do certain things like AllowMulti. That may be triggering just on using an ini by accident. I probably won't have a chance to trouble-shoot it until I return from Russia, though, so it'll be a couple weeks. Just use GPG on the key until then.

Woo!

Go Russia!
Mind you, I am Australian.
How could it be caused? I could have a look-see now...

Question.

Why are you pointing the initialization file at a local copy of GPG? Kinda defeats the purpose of having Portable Thunderbird+GPG, now doesn't it?

allways asking the default question

I might have an answer. When I attemted to disable the splash screen (it's nice but I like streamlined) as in previouse versions, by adding a "DisableSplashScreen=true" to the ini file and moving it to the PTB root directory, it would always ask the default quetion regardless of how I checked the box. I moved the di the following (a few weeks ago) and it works just fine. I am still cautious as I am out of my element however it's working.
Bill

MOVED both registry files FROM data/registry TO root folder
DELETED registry folder
ADDED "DisableSplashScreen=true" TO PortableThunderbird.ini file
MOVED PortableThunderbird.ini file TO root folder
DELETED gpg folders (2)

Yes...

... I can confirm PilotBill's remedy (posted right before this reply). There's something not quite right about how the .ini is resetting some registry setting regarding Portable Thunderbird's status as a system's default email program.
