Registry Editing Has Been Disabled...

When I start and close Portable Thunderbird I see the message "Registry editing has been disabled by your ", which is correct since I'm only a limited here at work.

To banish these messages I simply moved the 'registry' sub-folder out of the 'data' folder. Everything seems to be working fine. Is it okay to leave things this way?

Try the pre-release

Try the Thunderbird Portable 1.5.0.5 Pre-Release. It fixes this issue. The problem is that you have either a Guest-level or Limited-level on the PC. PTB tries to backup/restore settings so that it doesn't ask to be the default email client. But on these s, you get an error. The newer release fixes this issue. Give it a shot.

Pre-Release

Shortly before I read your post, Thunderbird advised me to update to v1.5.0.5, which I did. Was this Mozilla's update or your update?

You need to upgrade

You need to upgrade the launcher. It can't auto-update. Only the included TB binaries.

OK, So...

Can I install your version over the 1.5.0.5 I have now?

(Or perhaps I should wait until the pre-release version goes final? I just have this 'thing' about installing pre-release software.)

Thanks for your help. And I don't think I've thanked you yet for the Portable Apps...thank you very much! Now if only you and U3 could come to some kind of arrangement...

I've never had a problem with using thunderbird on a limited using the old launcher. I just ed the new one though.

Win2K

The error mentioned only appears in Win2K in limited or guest s. WinXP has the same issue (denying reg edits) but doesn't display an error.
