[Fixed] 11.1 causes I/O error 32

I just upgraded from Platform 11.0.1 to 11.1, and now every time the PortableApps Platform starts up, I get this error: "I/O error 32". I don't notice any lose of functionality though.

More Info

Could you please supply more info including your operating system version, language, install location, what antivirus you are running, whether you are logged in with rights or not, etc.

Also, please try disabling Autorun Protection to see if that is the cause:

I'm getting the same error

I'm getting the same error after upgrading to 11.1. I disabled the autorun protection in the ini file and it is still occurring.

OS's are Windows XP and Windows 7 running on an Ironkey USB drive. On XP I have rights - on Windows 7 I do not. Language is US English. On XP the AV is Microsoft Security Essentials and on Win 7 it is Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Local

Please try a fresh install locally temporarily, for your desktop directory is fine, to ensure it is not a USB flash drive issue.

Installing it locally seems

Installing it locally seems to work - no error message. I'm going to try a different USB drive now to see if I get the error.

In Addition

In addition to the autorun disable above, could you also please try swapping in this alternate PortableAppsPlatform.exe and replaced the one in your PortableApps\portableapps.sitesunblocked.org directory? Be sure you disabled autorun detection as well as replacing the EXE otherwise it will have no effect.

Will do... I'm in the process

Will do... I'm in the process of restoring files (it takes a while). When it is done I'll replace the exe file. BTW, after installing on the regular USB drive (which worked ok without errors), I installed the new release again on the Ironkey and got the error message. This never happened with the old releases.

Using the replacement

Using the replacement portableappsplatform.exe did the trick! No more errors when it is run.

Thanks!

Cool

It is the creation of the directory watch component that is causing this issue. I'll push out an update of the platform with autorun checking off by default and add in a GUI with a warning about enabling it.

I'm going to work on trapping that error as well.

Patch

Try the patched version here with autorun protection off: https://portableapps.sitesunblocked.org/node/34768#comment-199835

Sorry about not getting back

Sorry about not getting back to you sooner (I never received email notifications). Anyway, I made the change to the .ini file as suggested, and that fixed my issue as well. Thanks for the help!

INI file

At the moment, you need to manually configure the INI file: https://portableapps.sitesunblocked.org//portable_apps_suite#advanced

Fixed in 11.2

In 11.2, the autorun.inf malware protection is switched to check at startup by default. It does not check in realtime. Realtime is available as an advanced option, but it can cause IO errors and high U usage with certain drives.
