jPortable 8 u66, 32 bits, works with FF 35 but not with FF 43.0.1.
- The CommonFiles directory is at the same level as FF 35 and FF 43.
- The add-ons tab in FF 35 shows Java 8 but FF 43 does not.
- FF 35 does not need any changes in the Java Control inside jPortable but I gave it a try and it did not solve the problem.
- I created the preference dom.ipc.plugins.java.enabled in about config for FF 43 and set it to both true and false and this didn't solve the problem, either.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?
My operating system is Windows 8.1, 64 bits. Both versions of FF are portable.

Firefox Portable is now 32 and 64-bit together with the right one automatically selected. Install jPortable64 or set Firefox Portable to always use the 32-bit version: https://portableapps.sitesunblocked.org//firefox_portable#32and64
One note: Firefox is dropping all plugin by the end of 2016, so Java will cease to work when they do. Chrome already dropped plugin . I think Opera still s Java right now though I am not sure. Local browser-wise: Microsoft Edge has no plugin , IE still has Java plugin .

I copied the file FirefoxPortable.ini located in the folder Other\Source and edited by adding the following line at the end:
AlwaysUse32Bit=true
The file Ree.txt located in the folder Other\Source, too, helped me to use the right syntax.
If I try the second option: using the 64-bit mode of FF 43.0.1 with jPortable 64 bits, I will report how it went.

I have a similar problems..... my firefox portable 43.0.3 it's installed on:
C:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable
After that i have installed Jportable x64 8up66 on:
C:\PortableApps\CommonFiles
Firefox started succesfully.... but Java Plugins it's not been applied.... how it's working ??
Try 32-bit if 64-bit isn't working as explained in the link above.
Otherwise it may simply not work portably anymore. It will be discontinued by Mozilla sometime in 2016 anyway.

Yeah... but chrome has an internal flash player...... firefox html5 yeah but 99% or site over the worlds use the javascript and whitout java all internet it's not working on firefox ?
Otherwise it's the end of 2015.... it's still another year for 2016 and on firefox java working... the problems it's only whit portable....
There are no browsers looking to stop ing JavaScript anytime soon, only Java (they are very different, despite the similarity in names).
Running Java in browsers is a clunky, often insecure, memory-hungry monster, and with the leaps and bounds in browser-side JavaScript technology in recent years front-end Java is finally being put to rest.
I did some checking and it appears that Firefox in 64-bit mode will not run Java at all. Full stop, portable or local. This is due to Firefox 64-bit using a hard-coded plugins whitelist that Java is not on.
You can force Firefox Portable to run in 32-bit mode using AlwaysUse32Bit: https://portableapps.sitesunblocked.org//firefox_portable#32and64
As noted earlier, Java in Firefox 32-bit will be removed sometime in 2016. At that point only the Flash plugin will continue to work. All other plugins will be uned. Javascript will continue to work as Javascript has nothing to do with the Java plugin.
