Just wanted to let you know that Clam AV will not update. This problem started with the new update. It tries to update but fails on every attempt. I've uninstalled / reinstalled but this didn't fix the update problem.

A fresh install the definitions just fine here. You need full access to database.clamav.net an current.cvd.clamav.net for updates. Make sure you don't have anything in proxy settings within Preferences. Make sure you're not behind a firewall.
