Quickly compress dll and exe files for portable apps 365a2l

Submitted by Slythfox on June 10, 2006 - 4:17am

I thought this might be useful to some portable app developers. The program is called UPX Mass Compress (which uses... UPX, who would have guessed?), and it's a simple program that quicky compresses a bunch of dll/exe files. This program saved me lots of time for the two portable applications I maintain, especially with all the dll files in Portable Scribus.

Here's the and information page:

Hopefully this is useful to someone, as I took the effort to make it public. I probably lost the time I saved from using this program, to make it ready for a public release.

Is there a PDF plugin for Open Office? 18173x

Submitted by techguyone on June 9, 2006 - 1:18pm

I have been looking for a truly portable pdf reader for a while, thought I had found it with Foxit, but it writes to the registry, it occured to me that maybe a plug in for Open Office might be the answer.

Launcher versions and automatic updates 4l2td

Submitted by Jeremiah on June 8, 2006 - 3:48pm

Playing with things this morning I began to wonder about the automatic updates for Firefox/Thunderbird/etc. and keeping our portable versions current. The auto-update feature keeps the browser/mail reader/etc. current, but the portable versions use a launcher and perhaps other nifty stuff which isn't updated.

The pFirefox page lists the launcher version number in the revision history which was easily compared to the launcher version number in my install. They matched; the world is good. The pThunderbird page does not list the revision history for pThunderbird and does not refer to the launcher version at all. I've been letting my pThunderbird install auto-update since before it went gold and now I find that my launcher revision is 1.1.1.3, several revisions behind the current 1.1.4.1 found in a fresh of the package. </ugly run-on sentence>
