Auto-Update possible in PTB 1.5 RC1? 3181g

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on December 22, 2005 - 8:05am

Hello

Is it possible to let PTB 1.5 RC1 automatically check for updates? Mine was configured like that and just wanted to install a security update. But my research on mozilla.com or portableapps.sitesunblocked.org didn't show that there was any security update available.

Is it safe to update automatically within PTB 1.5 RC1 or should I wait and the whole new package from portableapps.sitesunblocked.org as available?

Junk and Message filters act strangely 1326n

Submitted by jrh on December 21, 2005 - 12:39pm

I read that we're recommended not to use the junk filter, however I receive so much junk that I decided to give it a go. I've never had problems with PTB freezing or crashing, but some other strange things have happened.

First, it's not catching 50% or so of the junk messages that go through for some reason. It's also marking messages as 'junk' that have never been marked before, and are on a whitelist.

Second, the message filters act weird, too. They filter messages that don't even remotely match the rules to that filter. For example, one message this morning was placed in a folder that only receives messages moved because they contain exactly "ing@." Upon looking at the folder, the mail was marked junk and moved to the junk folder. I have also had issues where after a message is moved by a filter, upon clicking on the folder it marks it as junk and moves it, even though it is clearly not junk.

Synchronize Profiles 5u1i14

Submitted by zphantom on December 20, 2005 - 10:19am

Is there a way to synchronize the profiles, such as the porfile on my main PC as well as on my USB. I've noticed that when I go to get new mail on my USB, if I've already got it on my home PC then it won't show on my USB. I'd hate to have to copy the pc profile to the USB everytime I want to update my inbox. Plus if I receive something on PTB then my regular Thunderbird won't get it. These portable apps have been a lifesaver. Thanks for the effort and time.

Can Reply to existing email, but can't send new email 234q4j

If I receive an email I can reply to it. I can not however send a new email. I get an alert telling me to check my settings. I've quadruple checked and everything is the same as my desktop app.

Any ideas?

Exporting mail and settings 676747

What's the best way to export mail and settings to either upgrade or to get ready for disaster recovery?

I'm only assuming that just saving a copy of portable thunderbird with settings on another medium, isn't the only way.

Modified autorun.inf file m2t1r

Submitted by jrh on December 16, 2005 - 2:38pm

I modified the autorun.inf file provided to include "Launch Portable Thunderbird" in the list of programs that XP displays in the autorun window. It's one less click you have to make to run PTB!

[autorun]
open=PortableThunderbird\PortableThunderbird.exe
icon=PortableThunderbird\PortableThunderbird.exe
action=Launch Portable Thunderbird

Can PTB still read RSS? 2y5538

Submitted by jrh on December 15, 2005 - 2:04pm

I just started using Portable Thunderbird 1.5 and I love it. There are, obviously, a few quirks, but that's to be expected.

One, for instance, is that it doesn't seem to read RSS. It wont the any new articles headers for some reason.

It this a known issue with all the portable Thunderbirds?

TB1.5 RC1 Checks for Default Mail Client 1s5i5p

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on December 14, 2005 - 8:17am

Am I the first person to have a problem with Portable TB? Is it that good?

On the page, you say that you have made modifications so that Tb doesn't check if it is the default mail client. I am using Portable Tb1.5 RC1, and everytime I run it in this library, I get asked if I want to set TB to be the default client....

Anyone else have this problem?
